Mapo Tofu

A classic Mapo Tofu recipe that makes it easy to replicate the taste of a Chinese restaurant at home.

What You'll Need

Tofu1 block (500g)
Ground pork80g
Green bell pepper1/3
Red chili pepper1
Minced garlic1 tbsp (10g)
Green onion1/2 stalk (50g)
Cooking oil4 tbsp (25g)
Chili oil1 tbsp (7g)
Doubanjiang (spicy bean paste)1 heaping tbsp (20g)
Dark soy sauce1/2 tbsp

Instructions

Bring a pot of water to a boil.

Cut the tofu in half and dice it into small cubes.

When the water boils, add the tofu to blanch it.

Heat cooking oil in a frying pan, add the ground pork, and stir-fry until golden brown.

Add the minced garlic and green onion, and stir-fry until golden and fragrant.

Add the green bell pepper and red chili pepper and stir-fry together.

Pour in 200cc of broth.

Season with doubanjiang, dark soy sauce, dashida (beef seasoning), and pepper.

Add the blanched tofu and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring gently.

Gradually add the starch slurry while stirring to thicken the sauce.

Finish by drizzling with sesame oil.
