Traditional Yakisoba

An easy recipe for making Japan's signature street food, Yakisoba, at home.

What You'll Need

Yakisoba noodles300g
Thinly sliced pork belly100g
Cabbage100g
Onion1/4 piece
Salt1 pinch
Pepper1 pinch
Worcestershire sauce2 tbsp
Dark soy sauce1 tbsp
Cheongha (Korean rice wine)1 tbsp
Oyster sauce1 tbsp
Katsuobushito taste
Aonori (dried green seaweed powder)to taste
Pickled red gingerto taste
Fried eggto taste

Instructions

Cut the onion into approximately 5mm pieces.

Cut the cabbage into 2cm pieces to maintain its texture.

Cut the thinly sliced pork belly into bite-sized pieces.

Mix 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp of dark soy sauce, 1 tbsp of Cheongha, and 1 tbsp of oyster sauce to make the sauce.

Microwave the Yakisoba noodles for 1 minute.

Grease a pan with cooking oil and stir-fry the pork belly over medium heat.

When the color of the pork belly changes, add the onion and stir-fry once more.

Add the cabbage, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and stir-fry with the meat.

Remove the stir-fried ingredients to an empty bowl for a moment.

Grease the pan again with cooking oil and sear the microwaved Yakisoba noodles until golden brown.

Loosen the noodles well so they don't break, add half of the sauce, and stir-fry.

Add the stir-fried pork belly, cabbage, and onion back in, pour in the remaining sauce, and stir-fry well.

Place the finished Yakisoba on a plate and garnish with Katsuobushi, Aonori, pickled red ginger, and a fried egg to taste.
