Mapo Tofu

A Mapo Tofu recipe that is easy to make without doubanjiang by using an all-purpose sauce and soybean paste.

What You'll Need

Tofu1 1/2 cups (180g)
Minced garlic1/2 tbsp (8g)
Chives1 tbsp (5g)
Green onion1 tbsp (10g)
Ground pork1/2 cup (80g)
Water1/2 cup (90g)
Water1/5 cup (40g)
Starch powder1/5 tbsp (2g)
All-purpose sauce1/2 cup (100g)
Soybean paste (Doenjang)1 tbsp (15g)
Cooking oil2 tbsp (15g)
Sesame oil1 tbsp (7g)

Instructions

Cut the tofu into 1.5cm cubes.

Chop the chives and green onion.

Drizzle cooking oil in a frying pan and stir-fry the green onion and chives over medium heat.

Once the onion aroma rises, add the ground pork and stir-fry, breaking it up so it does not clump.

Stir-fry until the ground pork is golden brown.

Add the water, all-purpose sauce, and soybean paste, and mix evenly.

Add the cubed tofu and bring to a boil.

Mix the starch powder with water to make a starch slurry, then pour it into the sauce to thicken.

Finally, drizzle with sesame oil to finish.
